Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Sanctuary.
Privacy & Anonymity
Yes. We don't know who you are and we can't know. There's no account, no email, no login. We don't track your device, IP address, or location. Your reflections are stored with a random ID that has no connection to you.
No. It's technically impossible for us to identify who wrote any reflection. The architecture doesn't allow it — there's no user ID, no session linking, no way to trace a reflection back to a person.
No. We can't sell what we don't have. We don't collect personal data, so there's nothing to sell. Our privacy isn't a policy — it's architecture.
Only the content of your reflection, the AI-detected themes, and a timestamp. That's it. No email, name, device ID, IP address, location, or any other identifying information.
How It Works
Every evening at 11:59 PM UTC, AI analyzes all the reflections submitted that day and creates a "collective consciousness" summary. It identifies themes, patterns, and notable excerpts (still anonymous) to show what humanity was feeling that day.
When you submit a reflection, AI detects themes in your writing. Resonance shows you how many others are exploring similar themes right now — not who they are or what they wrote, just a number. It's a reminder you're not alone.
No. Once submitted, reflections become part of the collective. Since we can't identify which reflections are yours, we can't let you edit or delete specific ones. This is by design — it encourages thoughtful submission.
Some thoughts are just for you. The Private Journal is a local feature — your entries are stored only on your device, never uploaded to our servers. If you change your mind, you can post any journal entry to the collective as an anonymous reflection.
Two optional notifications: "Daily Summary" alerts you when the collective summary is ready each evening, and "Daily Reminder" is a gentle nudge to reflect. Both can be toggled independently in Settings.
Content & Moderation
Almost anything. We believe in freedom of expression. We only have four rules: no illegal content, no direct threats, no doxxing, no targeted harassment. Everything else is allowed.
Yes, but minimal. AI screens for our four hard limits (illegal content, threats, doxxing, harassment). We don't moderate opinions, political views, negativity, or anything that's just "not nice." We trust users.
If our AI detects signs of crisis (self-harm, suicidal ideation), we'll show you resources. But we're not a crisis service — we can't monitor for emergencies or provide intervention. Please reach out to a crisis line if you're struggling.
Account & Access
No. There are no accounts. Just open the app and start reflecting. No email, no password, no sign-up.
Yes, completely free. No subscription, no premium tier, no ads. We may add optional features in the future, but core functionality will always be free.
We don't, yet. We're building this because we believe it should exist, not because it's a good business model. If we need to generate revenue in the future, it will be through optional features, never by selling data.
